Corsair’s Obsidian 1000D has room for e-atx and mini-itx systems at the same time
Corsair has announced its Obsidian 1000D case. The ‘supertower’ is large enough to hold two systems at once, including power supplies. Corsair has not yet announced the price for the housing.
The dimensions of the Obsidian 1000D are 69.34 x 30.73 x 69.60 cm, making it Corsair’s largest housing, according to the company, to date. The housing is made of steel and aluminum and weighs 29.5 kilograms. The side panels and the front panel are made of tempered glass.
Inside is room for two systems, with up to an e-atx and a mini-itx motherboard and atx and sfx power supply respectively. Each of those systems then has its own front panel, with on and reset buttons and USB 3.0 and 3.1 Gen 2 ports of the c-type. According to the manufacturer, the housing can be used for streaming and gaming, for example, each with its own optimized system.
In the Obsidian, users can place up to thirteen fans, eight of which are 120mm ones on the front. At the top there is room for three 140mm fans and at the back two more fans can be placed. As far as water cooling is concerned, this means that two 480mm models can be placed, above a 360mm variant and behind a 280mm model. The trays with fan mounts are extendable, which should make placement easier. Corsair does not supply fans as standard, but there is an integrated Commander PRO controller.
The housing can accommodate five 3.5″ HDDs and six 2.5″ storage drives. Behind the right-hand panel of glass are two doors that give access to the compartment where, for example, SSDs can be placed.
Corsair has not yet announced the price of the Obsidian 1000D, but previous Internet listings mentioned a price of 500 dollars, which, converted and including VAT, is currently about 508 euros.
