Nintendo may be working on improved left Joy-Con controller
Nintendo has sent documents to the FCC indicating that the manufacturer is likely working on a new left Joy-Con controller. The company probably wants to solve the connectivity problems that arise with some controllers.
In one of the documents posted to the Federal Communications Commission website, Nintendo mentions a request to change a product with the same serial number as the original Joy-Cons. The manufacturer reports that this is a change that mainly revolves around a new antenna. This concerns the bluetooth antenna, so that the Joy-Con can also be used separately from the Switch.
In March 2017, Nintendo admitted that connectivity issues may occur with some copies of the Joy-Con controller on the left side of Nintendo Switch. The company indicated that it would repair any malfunctioning controllers for free and now seems to want to fix the problem permanently at some point in the future. It is not clear when the possible new design of the left controller will be released with new copies of the Switch.
Why it’s just the left Joy-Con controller is probably related to a difference in the design of the controllers. The right controller has a separate part for the bluetooth antenna, while the antenna of the left controller is built directly into the motherboard. This allows the right controller to have a stronger bluetooth signal.
