Spotify believes Apple is acting as a monopolist in App Store conflict

Spotify has issued a new response to its dispute with Apple over the App Store terms. According to the music company, Apple reacts like a monopolist, while Apple itself says that Spotify wants the benefits of a free app, without being a free app.

Spotify’s response followed a statement from Apple released Friday after Spotify filed a complaint with the European Commission over its App Store policy that would hinder competitors. Where Apple denied that it unfairly hindered Spotity from offering its app in the App Store, Spotify responded again by saying that Apple is acting like a monopolist.

In a statement issued to Variety, among others, Spotify stated that “any monopolist would say they have done nothing wrong and want the best for competitors and consumers.” In addition, the Swedish music company states that Apple’s response was “exactly as expected” and that it is now up to the European Commission to rule on the case.

Last week, Spotify sued the European Commission for feeling unfairly treated over the 30 percent of revenue it has to pay from the sale of Premium subscriptions in the iOS application.
