EA comes with cosmetic in-game purchases for Star Wars Battlefront II
EA has made it possible again to buy stuff in Star Wars Battlefront II with real money. This time it’s not about content that influences the gameplay, but about cosmetic attributes. EA received a lot of criticism for the so-called loot boxes.
In a post on its website, EA announced that Crystals are being reintroduced into the game. The Crystals are an in-game currency that must be purchased with real money. This can then be used to pay for cosmetic adjustments in Star Wars Battlefront II; according to EA, you can choose from 50 so-called Appearances.
Offering stuff for real money came to EA with great criticism last year. Players found that the purchases resulted in a significantly faster progression in the game, while playing without spending real money resulted in very slow progression. As a result, Star Wars Battlefront II was seen as pay to win by a large number of players. In the end, EA gave in and the so-called loot boxes were removed from the game and the progression system adjusted.
In the news item on its website, EA also reports the arrival of the Night on Endor minigame. It will be available for a limited time from April 18. In the Ewok Hunt, a group of Ewoks hunt Stormtroopers, in a sort of last man standing concept, and the Stormtroopers have to last long enough to be evacuated.
In November, EA announced that it had chosen not to put cosmetic attributes in the loot boxes, for fear of violating the Star Wars canon. Why EA is now returning to this has not been disclosed.
