Google enables wireless connection to Android Auto
Google has made it possible for car owners who have Android Auto to connect wirelessly to a mobile phone. Incidentally, this only works on a select number of Google smartphones for the time being.
The arrival of the new functionality was not widely announced by Google, but can be read in a post on the product forums. According to the internet giant, it is possible for a number of smartphones to establish a wireless connection with the car, so that a USB connection is no longer necessary. More information is provided on a help page.
According to the support page, users must have a Pixel smartphone, or a Nexus 5X or 6P. Older Google smartphones are not supported, and the Android Auto app must be updated to version 3.1. The receiver built into the car must also be suitable for wireless connections.
