Russian extradited to US says not guilty of LinkedIn and Dropbox hacks
Yevgeni N., a 29-year-old Russian, has said in an American court that he is not guilty of hacks on LindedIn and Dropbox, among others. The man was extradited to the US on Friday after he was arrested in the Czech Republic in 2016 at the request of Interpol.
Cyberscoop writes that the man was eventually extradited from the Czech Republic to the US after a long tussle. Both Russia and the US wanted the Russian to be extradited to them. Shortly after his arrest, the Russian government said that he had stolen about $3,500 worth of Webmoney in 2009. The man is suspected by the US of being responsible for hacks on LinkedIn, Dropbox and Formspring.
According to Bloomberg, Russia is “very disappointed” with the Czech decision to extradite to the US. The country would not have taken into account ‘all the circumstances of the case’. According to the suspect’s lawyer, he has medical problems and hopes to be transferred to a hospital.
After the man’s arrest in 2016, LinkedIn published a message saying that the Russian was involved in the 2012 hack, which took the data of 117 million users. The 2012 Dropbox hack involved the data of 69 million users.
