PUBG Considering Region Lock on Servers to Improve Gameplay
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds may be region-locked, allowing only nearby players to see a particular server. That should improve gameplay by reducing ping and help with language barriers.
PUBG Corporation is going to do a limited test with the regiolock to see if it works. After the results of that test are in, the developer will see whether the region lock will take effect worldwide. If that happens, players will only be able to compete against people who are at a limited distance, although it is unknown how far that distance is. It probably goes by continent.
If you team up with someone from another region, you can use the server from another region. This should prevent the measure from splitting up teams. PUBG had a matchmaking system based on ping times for some time. The company says it will soon announce whether and when the region lock will come into effect.
