MSI calls AMD GPUs ‘under par’

After being asked by a user on Facebook for an opinion on the GeForce Partner Program, MSI’s Gaming department responded that Nvidia will be given priority because users wouldn’t buy anything of lesser quality.

The question was asked under an advertisement for a gaming laptop from the company. Reddit user pjgowtham in response accuses MSI, Gigabyte and Asus of encouraging monopoly by joining the GeForce Partner Program.

In the response, MSI Gaming claims that Nvidia is ‘leading the way in the GPU experience’ and people would not buy anything that is inferior to it. When asked whether MSI Gaming will then only use Nvidia GPUs in its laptops and desktops, the company says that if AMD hardware performs similarly, “MSI would be able to do this”. What is meant by this is not made clear.

The GeForce Partner Program has been in the news lately, as Nvidia would attempt to exclusively tie the gaming brands of several companies to it. For example, the external video card with AMD GPU from Gigabyte lacks the Aorus name, which can be found on its Nvidia counterpart, and MSI has removed all Gaming Series video cards with AMD chips from the overview on its website.
