Asus presents mini-itx motherboard with passively cooled Celeron J4005 socket
Asus has announced a motherboard based on the Intel Gemini Lake platform. The Prime J4005I-C is equipped with a Celeron J4005-soc, a dual-core with a TDP of 10 watts and a turbo speed of 2.7GHz.
The Asus Prime J4005I-C board has the mini-itx form factor and is therefore 17x17cm in size. The processor is integrated on the motherboard and equipped with a heatsink for passive cooling. Two slots are available for DDR4-2400 memory and two SATA600 connections for HDDs or SSDs. There is also an m2 slot for an SSD and an m2 slot for a WiFi card.
At the back of the board is an HDMI output and there are four USB connections, two of which are USB 2.0 and two USB 3.1. There is also an Ethernet connection and two PS/2 connections. Asus also gives the board a com port and d-sub connection.
The Intel Gemini Lake sockets are based on the Atom architecture. Compared to the previous generation Apollo Lake, the Goldmont cores have been improved and the cache has been increased from 2MB to 4MB. The Celeron J4005-soc on the Asus motherboard is a dual-core with a speed of 2GHz, with a turbo speed of up to 2.7GHz.
In January, ASRock and Gigabyte already announced similar motherboards around the Gemini Lake platform. It is not yet known what the Asus Prime J4005I-C board will cost and when it will appear in stores.
