‘Android P seems to allow the use of a smartphone as a bluetooth input’
According to the XDA Developers website, Android P, the upcoming Android release, will add support that allows the smartphone to be used as a bluetooth input device. This allows the phone to be used, for example, as a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse.
The website XDA Developers comes to this conclusion based on information from a developer, who has submitted a submit from which it can be concluded that Bluetooth HID will be part of Android P.
According to the website, a recent configuration file shows that the option for Bluetooth HID has been set to ‘true’, while it was still set to ‘false’ with Android 8.1. The option was already added in 2016, but only now seems to be available. The relevant developer APIs would now also allow the use of this bluetooth option on devices running Android P.
Last week, telecom journalist Evan Blass reported that Google plans to release a first developer version of Android 9.0, for the time being better known by the codename “P”, in mid-March. Presumably, Google will release multiple developer versions before the software is finally available.
