Netflix introduces feature to block specific content with PIN code
Streaming service Netflix has announced that it will soon be possible to protect specific films and series with a pin code. This feature is primarily aimed at parents who want to block certain content for their children.
Netflix reports that it is already possible to exclude content based on age categories and protect the titles within these categories with a PIN code. The new function makes it possible to set a pin code per title, according to the company. For example, parents should have more control over what their children watch. The feature should be available globally in the coming months.
A second change is that the service will show the classification of titles more clearly, so that it is easier to see for which age a film or series is suitable. As soon as a user starts a title, this classification will be shown on the screen. Netflix said in 2014 that it would use the Kijkwijzer classification. This is also shown on the service.
TechCrunch notes that the timing of the launch is striking in conjunction with Disney’s plans to offer its own service in 2019. In addition, the site suggests the decision may have been prompted by the discussion surrounding the “13 Reasons Why” series, which deals with themes of abuse and suicide. Some parents would have labeled this series as dangerous.
