Android P makes it easier for users to block phone numbers
The upcoming new version of the Android operating system seems to have the ability to more easily block unwanted incoming phone calls. Users are given several options to block unknown and unwanted numbers.
The new functionality was not made public by Google itself, but was discovered by developers after new code was uploaded on Android’s open source project, XDA Developers reports. If the information is correct, then the new version of Android will offer more extensive options for blocking phone numbers.
Currently in Android it is already possible to block individual phone numbers, but they must be added manually. From Android 9.0, however, it seems to be possible to select which numbers should be blocked by default. This may concern, for example, callers who do not display their number, or telephone numbers that are unknown to the user. It should also be possible to block standard paid telephone numbers.
XDA Developers has also discovered that the new functionality will only be available if the provider allows it. As a result, blocking phone numbers via preset rules may not be available to all Android users.
Earlier rumors indicate that Google probably plans to release the first developer version of Android 9.0, or Android P, from mid-month. It may then become clearer about the functionality to block telephone numbers.
