Sega put full version of Yakuza 6 online instead of demo

Sega has put the full version of Yakuza 6 online on the US PlayStation Store, rather than a limited-play demo. The publisher has since removed the download.

Polygon, among others, reports that gamers who have downloaded the demo can play the full game. The demo is 37GB and contains the full game, but actually it was intended that only a small part is playable and that the rest can be unlocked for a fee at the time of the game’s release.

However, that lock turned out to be missing. When Sega discovered that, the download was pulled from the PlayStation Store. The publisher apologizes for that on Twitter and says the demo will be back online today. As far as we know, the flaw with the demo has only been present on the US PlayStation Store.

Sega may be able to limit the misreleased demo with an update, so that users can’t play the full game anyway. Gamers who want to prevent this could temporarily take their PlayStation 4 offline. It is not yet known whether Sega has such plans.

Yakuza 6: The Song Of Life was released in Japan last year, but is now being released worldwide. The full game will not be officially released until April 17.
