A new development build of Wine has been released with version number 5.5. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API and allows you to run DOS and Windows programs on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, and macOS. A large group of developers contribute to Wine and it has been decided to release a new so-called development version every two weeks instead of waiting for a number of new functions to be ready. A stable edition is published a few times a year. The database with applications that work under Wine, with or without the help of minor adjustments, contains 26,989 titles at the time of writing. Since version 5.2, the following changes and improvements have been made:

  • Builtin libraries use the new UCRTBase C runtime.
  • Compatibility mode used when reporting Windows version.
  • Better support for debug information in PE files.
  • Support for linguistic case mappings.
  • More attributes supported in WebServices.
  • Various bug fixes.

  • Unicode data updated to Unicode version 13.
  • Builtin programs use the new UCRTBase C runtime.
  • More correct support for Internationalized Domain Names.
  • Support for painting rounded rectangles in Direct2D.
  • Text drawing in D3DX9.
  • Various bug fixes.

  • More work towards Ucrtbase runtime support.
  • Full support for Unicode normalization.
  • Improvements in Shell Folder handling.
  • Various bug fixes.
