German startup e.GO builds electric car based on VW’s MEB platform
The German e.GO Mobile AG has announced that it is working on an electric car based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform. The German startup drew attention last year with the e.GO Life, a fully electric car with a price tag of 15900 euros.
Volkswagen’s MEB platform, which stands for Modularer Elektrobaukasten, is a ready-to-use basis for an electric car. Last month, the German automaker announced that it is also making its platform available to other manufacturers. The first partner to take advantage of this opportunity is e.GO Mobile AG, e.GO reports. Volkswagen and e.GO announced their partnership at the Geneva Auto Show.
It is not yet clear whether e.GO wants to use the MEB platform for the already announced e.GO Life, or for a completely new model. Volkswagen, in turn, aims to produce approximately 15 million electric cars based on the MEB platform in the coming years. At the Geneva Auto Show, the manufacturer itself also presented a new electric model based on an MEB, the ID. buggy.
