Horizon Forbidden West Standard Edition on PS4 Still Gets Free PS5 Upgrade
Sony has decided that the standard edition of Horizon Forbidden West will receive a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Sony had been planning to do that for some time, but the company came back to that this week. Now Sony is adjusting its course again and the upgrade is free again.
A few days ago, Sony revealed that the standard edition of Horizon Forbidden West on the PS4 would not get a free upgrade to the PS5 version. For that, gamers would have to buy the Digital Deluxe, Collector’s or Regalla edition, which cost 90, 200 and 270 euros respectively. The standard edition costs 70 euros.
However, various media linked to publications in which Sony says that the PS4 version would receive a free upgrade, regardless of which edition it is and whether that edition is digital or physical. For example, there was a blog post from Sony itself and Sony CEO Jim Ryan made similar statements in an interview with The Washington Post last year.
Sony is now going to make that happen. “Last year we made a commitment that launch titles would receive cross-gen upgrades and although Horizon Forbidden West has fallen outside of our target release window due to the pandemic, we are still going to deliver on our promise. Players playing Horizon Forbidden West on PS4 buy the PS5 upgrade for free”.
Sony further announced in the blog post that “from now on, all first-party, PlayStation-exclusive, cross-gen titles that are newly released on both platforms at the same time can always be upgraded from the PS4 version to the PS5 version for $10. ‘.
Horizon Forbidden West, from the game studio Guerrilla Games, should be released on February 18. The game is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, which came out on PS4 in 2017. Horizon Forbidden West is exclusive to Sony’s consoles, but the first part also got a Windows version last year, so maybe the sequel will get that in the longer term.
