HP’s laptop, desktop and workstation sales grow 15 percent

HP’s PC division has posted double-digit sales growth for the fifth consecutive quarter. In the past quarter, HP was able to generate more revenue from laptop and workstation sales as well as from desktop deliveries.

Turnover from laptop sales increased by 14 percent compared to last year to 5.6 billion dollars, or 4.5 billion euros. This division is therefore responsible for the largest part of PC turnover. But sales from desktop PCs also increased, by 17 percent, to $3 billion. Quarterly workstation sales were $543 million, an 11 percent increase over last year.

HP’s entire PC division was able to generate 15 percent more sales to $9.4 billion, compared to a 10 percent increase in sales a year ago compared to the same period in 2016. It is the fifth consecutive quarter for the PC division with revenue growth of 10 percent or more. Commenting on its quarterly results, HP reports growth in all regions and in several product categories, for both the consumer and business markets.

HP does not mention sales numbers. The research firms IDC and Gartner have reported for some time that HP is increasing its market share. That would now be about 22 to 24 percent, putting it ahead of competitors Lenovo and Dell. HP’s total quarterly revenue increased 14 percent to $14.5 billion.
