Rumor: Apple’s AirPower wireless charger coming next month
Apple is reportedly releasing its AirPower wireless charger next month. Apple presented the product last September and already said it would take until this year before the charger would finally hit stores.
Macokatara reports that from March both Apple’s own stores and other retailers will have the AirPower in their range. The Japanese site is known for being reliable. From that moment on, Apple will also sell a separate case for its wireless earbuds AirPods that is compatible with AirPower.
The wireless charger is a mat that can charge multiple Apple devices at the same time. The mat works with Qi, the best known standard for wireless charging. However, the manufacturer has added its own technology, so that the mat cannot charge other devices that work with Qi. AirPower will work with the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X, the Apple Watch and AirPods with the separately purchased case.
It is still unknown how much Apple will charge for the wireless charging mat. The American manufacturer is by no means the first with such a mat. Such products have been around for years. In recent years, many manufacturers have opted for chargers with room for only one device.
