Google Maps update may allow battery level sharing
An analysis of the most recent beta version of Google Maps suggests that that version introduces a feature that allows users to share the battery percentage of their device. This is evident from strings in the app’s code.
The analysis of the app with version 9.71 was carried out by Android Police, which publishes the found texts. The site came across strings containing text about the battery level of the user’s device, for example “the battery level is between 75 and 100 percent and charging” and variants thereof. It is still unclear where exactly this announcement will be shown, but it is obvious that this will happen if someone shares their location with someone else.
The beta version also contains other hints of possible features, such as creating a shortcut for frequently used stops or stations and sharing routes and arrival time when traveling via public transport. While these point to functionality, it doesn’t mean it will eventually be included in Maps. The same goes for battery level sharing.
Real-time location sharing has been possible in Google Maps for some time, the search giant introduced this feature a little less than a year ago. In addition, users can share the location, but they can also choose that certain contacts can follow them during navigation, allowing those contacts to see when they will arrive.
