Rocket League for Nintendo Switch Gets Performance Improved Update

Psyonix has announced that an update to Rocket League is coming this spring that will, among other things, increase the resolution on the Nintendo Switch. In addition, players will see live notifications about any connection problems.

The changes to Rocket League were revealed in an overview of Psyonix’s plans for the game in 2018. The biggest change that can be found on that is the Spring Feature Update, which brings the performance improvements for the Switch and some improvements in the UI.

Users of the Switch version will be able to choose from two graphics settings after the spring update: Performance Mode and Quality Mode. The former runs at 900p resolution on the dock or 720p on battery, with a frame rate of 60fps. Dynamic resolution scaling is applied here, so that the resolution can be temporarily reduced. Quality Mode fixes the frame rate at 30fps, but allows the game to run natively at 1080p. Off the dock, the game runs at 720p, but has been polished up a bit graphically.

Another addition of the update is a notification system that keeps the user informed of any connection problems live. In the event of packet loss, fluctuating latency or server performance issues, players will be notified.

Furthermore, the update mainly contains changes to the interface, such as better ways to search items and some new menu options. Also added is the ability to set up tournaments with large numbers of players.

Later this year, Psyonix plans to add the ability to start parties with players on different platforms, come up with a utility for the XP system, and come up with new arenas and features. Support for the Xbox One X is also being worked on, which should be released by the end of the year.
