Dell Introduces Chromebook Convertible With USB-C

Dell has announced new rugged Chromebooks for use in education. The company will release a beefed-up 2-in-1 model in the Chromebook 5000 series in February, with stylus support and USB-C.

The Chromebook 5190 is an 11-inch Chromebook that comes as a traditional laptop and as a 2-in-1 convertible. The model has a webcam and camera on the back of the screen, a USB-C connection and support for control with a pen.

Dell claims that the Chromebook’s housing is robust enough to withstand a 1.21-meter drop on a regular surface, and 76cm on steel. In addition, the manufacturer claims that the systems can withstand 10,000 ‘micro-drops’, meaning Dell falls from 10cm from different points of view.

The systems are also resistant to scratches, the hinges are reinforced and the keyboards can withstand liquid leakage. Dell will ship the Chromebook 5190 with Intel Celeron dual-cores and quad-cores starting in February for a starting price of $289. The battery life is a claimed 13 hours. It is not known whether and when Dell will introduce the systems in the Benelux.
