Snap threatens lawsuits against employees who leak information
Snap, Snapchat’s parent company, has circulated a memo within the company warning against leaking information. Anyone who is guilty of leaks will not only lose their job, but can also be sued.
However, the internal memo has also already leaked; the website Cheddar got its hands on it and put its content online. In the memo, Snap informs its employees that it has a zero tolerance policy against the leakage of company information, for example to journalists. Those approached by the press are not allowed to comment, and must refer the reporters to Snap’s press department.
Anyone who does talk to the press, or others outside of Snap, and disclose company information, can count on losing their job. Snap also threatens to use all available legal means to impose further penalties. Specifically, the company threatens jail time as one of the possible consequences.
Snap is currently in dire straits after the IPO did not go as desired. Snapchat’s parent company is in a dire financial position and recently had to lay off people. With the memo, the company probably hopes to stem the flow of negative information that comes out.
