Guest drivers for VirtualBox become part of Linux kernel
The next version of the Linux kernel, 4.16, integrates the guest drivers for VirtualBox. This eliminates the need to install it manually to achieve further integration when using a virtual machine.
Phoronix writes that the ‘vboxguest’ driver will be part of the 4.16 kernel. That is the result of the work of Hans de Goede of Red Hat. The driver allows the use of various features that further integrate the guest OS in the VM with the host.
In a message on the Linux kernel mailing list, De Goede writes that the addition of the driver will include support for cutting and pasting between host and guest, for seamless mode and for OpenGL pass-through.
Phoronix notes that the Shared Folder option may not be ready in time for release along with the 4.16 kernel, so it may come later.
