Planet will start delivering PDA smartphone with keyboard to backers this month maand
The company Planet starts this month with the delivery of its PDA smartphone to backers of its Indiegogo campaign. Deliveries will continue until spring. The Gemini is an old Psion PDA inspired design with a physical keyboard.
The first copies have now rolled off the production line and are on display at the CES electronics fair, Planet says. The first backers can expect their copy this month. The PDA smartphone comes with Android 7.0, because the MediaTek Helio X27 soc in the device does not yet have Oreo support.
The Gemini was co-designed by Martin Riddiford. He was previously involved in the design of the Psion Series 5 PDA in the 1990s. The Gemini is a device that can be folded in half and that has a physical QWERTY keyboard. According to the makers, this concerns a ‘full tactile keyboard’, which resembles the copies in earlier PDAs.
The screen is a 5.99″ LCD with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. The battery has a capacity of 4220mAh. The Gemini should go on sale later this year. The Wi-Fi version will cost $399, while the 4G variant should be available in stores for USD 599. For backers the price is USD 299 and USD 399 respectively. Planet reached its target on Indiegogo at the beginning of March last year.
