Philips introduces Hue Sync software to synchronize light with PC activity
As part of CES, Philips announced new software for Windows and macOS that allows users to match the color of their lights to activity on their computer. In addition, the company will introduce Hue outdoor lamps in the summer.
For example, the Hue Sync software for Windows and macOS High Sierra allows users to watch a movie, play a game or listen to music on their computer. The activity is then converted by the software into ‘light scripts’ that depend on what is happening on the image or what music is being played. Philips plans to make the software available in the second quarter of this year. The announcement follows a partnership with Razer to pair Chroma hardware with Hue lights via the Entertainment API.
In addition, Philips will introduce a line of Hue lamps for outdoor use in the summer. The company is not disclosing details about the types of bulbs that will be available. A final announcement concerns the 3.0 version of the Hue app, which should also be released in the second quarter of this year. The app has been redesigned based on user comments, Philips said.
The app offers integration with the Entertainment API and products of partners that use it, for example for movies, games and music. The renewed app should make it easier to retrieve the most recent light scene, group lamps and adjust their color temperature.
