Philips releases 4k LCD TVs with support for Dolby Vision

Philips is coming in the US with 4k LCD TVs that support Dolby Vision. It concerns televisions in the 5900 and 6900 series. TP Vision is not the manufacturer of these devices, which may only be available in the US.

The TVs in the 6900 series come in 50″, 55″ and 65″ sizes, while the cheaper 5900 TVs come in sizes with five different screen diagonals from 43 to 75 inches. The 5900 variants support Wi-Fi with the 802.11ac standard and built-in mimo support and have HDMI 2.0a.

Compared to the 5900 series, the more expensive 6900 TVs have a wider color space and an improved so-called BrightPro2 backlight system to better enhance the HDR reproduction in Dolby Vision. Furthermore, the manufacturer has omitted Ambilight in favor of a system that, according to TechRadar, should provide twice as much brightness. Prices and release dates have not yet been announced.

The support for Dolby Vision is striking, because it seemed at the end of last year that TP Vision would join the collaboration between Samsung and Panasonic, among others, for the support of hdr10 +, which should be the counterpart of Dolby Vision. However, TP Vision is not the manufacturer of these devices that seem to only be released in the US for the time being.
