Steam figures: 4.35 percent of VR systems are Windows Mixed Reality glasses
About 4.35 percent of the VR systems in use on Steam are Windows Mixed Reality glasses. That was 2 percent in November. The HTC Vive is still the most used system, closely followed by the Oculus Rift.
There are now about twice as many Windows Mixed Reality-based glasses in use on Steam as Oculus Rift DK2, according to figures from the Steam Hardware Survey. The Rift’s second Developer Kit has been delivered at least 100,000 times, but parent company Facebook has not disclosed exact numbers recently.
Microsoft released Mixed Reality as part of Windows 10’s Fall Creators Update, and the headsets hit the market this fall. They have been visible in Steam stats since November. There are models from various manufacturers, including Medion, Asus, Acer and HP. Samsung has a model with OLED screens, but that is not available in Europe.
In statistics, the HTC Vive is still used by more Steam customers to download software than the Oculus Rift, but the difference is decreasing. The Vive still has a lead of about 1 percent. Users can choose not to have their system included in the statistics. In addition, not every user will be on Steam, making it unclear whether this is representative of the market for VR systems with access to Steam. The allegedly best-selling VR headset, the PlayStation VR, cannot be on Steam by default and is therefore not included in these statistics.
