Samsung has presented a monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a Thunderbolt 3 connection, the CJ791. The curved screen has quantum dots, has a diagonal of 34 “and a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels.

According to Samsung, the CJ791 is the first curved monitor to support Intel’s Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. The Thunderbolt interface is said to support speeds of up to 40 Gbit/s and up to 85W of power to power a laptop.

Partly thanks to the presence of a quantum dot layer, the coverage of the sRGB color space is 125 percent. The monitor has a significant curvature of 1500R, which is equivalent to that of a circle with a radius of 1.5 meters.

With this monitor, Samsung is not only targeting the business market, but also gamers. For example, the monitor has a game mode with a dynamic gamma setting that can adjust the colors and contrast per scene. Furthermore, the CJ791 has a response time of 4ms.

The manufacturer has not disclosed any further specifications, release dates or prices. In terms of design and type number, the CJ791 matches the existing C34F791 monitor. This monitor has a VA panel, a high contrast value, a refresh rate of 100Hz and FreeSync support. Whether that also applies to the CJ791 will become apparent during the upcoming CES fair, where the monitor will probably be presented.
