LG Display has introduced an 88″ OLED television with a resolution of 8k. According to the manufacturer, it is the world’s first 88″ OLED television with a resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels, which is four times higher than a 4k resolution and sixteen times higher than full HD resolution.

LG says the importance of 8k panels lies in creating a higher resolution without compromising brightness. For the higher 8k resolution, LG has reduced the size of each pixel, which, according to the manufacturer, normally leads to a reduced brightness with LCDs. LG states that this is not the case with this 8k television, because pixels of OLED televisions provide light themselves and therefore do not need an improved backlight like LCD TVs.

The South Korean manufacturer has released few details about the new television. LG says it wants to remain an important player in the high-end TV market with the device. The device will be on display for the first time at the upcoming CES trade show in Las Vegas.

Until now, LG’s largest OLED television had a screen diagonal of 77 inches and this TV has a 4k resolution. This W7 was also available in 65 inch. Samsung has previously released an 88-inch television in its Qled series.
