The Creative Assembly has announced that the release of Total War: Three Kingdoms has been postponed. The latest game in the Total War series was supposed to be released on March 7, but the developer has pushed that to May 23.

Creative Assembly states that Three Kingdoms contains a “new level of complexity” and therefore more time is needed to ensure that these systems function properly. In addition, the developer says that the extra time is also not bad for, among other things, fixing difficult bugs, improving the localization and language options, and improving certain battle animations.

The game was originally supposed to be released in the fall of 2018, but Creative Assembly announced last June that the release was delayed to the spring of 2019. Last September it was also announced that Feral Interactive is making ports of the strategy game for Linux and macOS. Exactly when those ports will be released is still unknown.

Total War: Three Kingdoms is about the struggle of eleven different Chinese warlords, who attempt to unite China around 190 AD. The RTS game is based on a romanticized version of history from the book Romance of the Three Kingdoms, although players can also opt for a more realistic Classic Mode, where generals are no longer supernaturally strong.
