Photos have appeared online of the Samsung Galaxy A8+ (2018) and separately it has been confirmed that Samsung will use the model name Galaxy A8. Samsung will probably come with the Galaxy A8 and A8+ as successors to the A5 and A7 (2017).

By using the A8 names, it would be clear that these are phones of the same generation as the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 devices. Two photos of the Galaxy A8+ have been published on the Chinese social network Weibo. The photos show that the device has an extended screen, probably with an 18:9 ratio. However, the screen does not have rounded edges.

A bluetooth certificate shows that Samsung has registered the A8 name. The registration states that it is the model number SM-A530F. The current Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) has model number SM-A520F and because Samsung uses consecutive model numbers, it is clear that the A8 is the successor of the A5.

Renders of the devices already appeared in mid-October and at the time there was also talk about the specifications. The smartphones would get the Exynos 7885 soc from Samsung. That processor is made at 10nm and contains two Cortex A73 cores, four Cortex A53 cores and a Mali G71 GPU from ARM. The screen would have a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels.

It is not yet known when Samsung will announce the A8 and A8+. Samsung usually releases the Galaxy A models at the beginning of the year. Samsung used the name Galaxy A8 earlier in 2015, for a thin device that was released in China. However, that smartphone has model number SM-A8000.
