Rumor: Quentin Tarantino and JJ Abrams Are Making New Star Trek Movie Together
Quentin Tarantino and JJ Abrams may be making a new Star Trek movie together. That reports film site Deadline based on anonymous sources. If it all goes through, Tarantino will be directing and Abrams producing.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Tarantino has done something different from his own films. Deadline notes that he has previously done a few episodes of CSI and an episode of hospital series ER. A film from a franchise would be a new ‘final frontier’ for the director. Both Tarantino and Paramount have neither confirmed nor denied the rumor about the new Star Trek film.
In a 2015 Nerdist podcast, Tarantino says he would prefer to use an episode of the original 1960s Star Trek series as the basis for a new movie, such as The City on the Edge or Forever. That’s a different approach than recent Star Trek Movies like Beyond use.
For now, we have to wait until more is known about a possible next Star Trek film. Tarantino is first working on a film about Charles Manson’s cult, due out in 2019, which he will finish before starting a new ‘enterprise’.
