A roadmap from Intel shows that the processor manufacturer will release the Cascade Lake-X processors in the fourth quarter of next year. It concerns high-end desktop CPUs, which will follow the Skylake-X models.

Cascade Lake-X is mentioned on a roadmap published on the Chinese website MyDrivers. Only the name is on the roadmap, with no other details. Intel has previously indicated that Cascade Lake is the name of the refresh of the Xeon Scalable processors. Those CPUs are based on the Skylake architecture and it is therefore expected that the Cascade Lake-X CPUs will still be produced at 14nm, but on an improved version of the process.

It is not yet clear how many models Intel will release in the Cascade Lake-X series. It is also not yet known whether new motherboards are needed to use the CPUs. The high-end desktop CPUs will follow the Skylake-X models. Its current top model is the Core i9-7980XE with 18 cores.

Furthermore, the roadmap shows that Intel will start production of new Coffee Lake-S processors with 6, 4 and 2 cores in the fifth week of 2018. In the seventh week, the production of Intel 300 series chipsets will start. This probably concerns the H370 and H310 chipsets for the mainstream and budget segment. The B360, Q360 and Q370 chipsets for the business segment are also expected. Earlier it also appeared that Intel will come with a high-end Z390 chipset in 2018, above the current Z370 variant.

The new Coffee Lake-S processors and motherboards will go on sale sometime between March and April. At the end of November, a long list with the names of the new Coffee Lake-S processors appeared. The variants with two cores are the Pentium Gold and Celeron models.
