Autodesk to lay off 13 percent of staff
Software maker Autodesk is going to lay off 13 percent of its staff next year. This concerns a total of 1,150 jobs, the American company announced during the presentation of its quarterly figures. Autodesk is in the process of transitioning from selling software packages to selling subscriptions.
Director Andrew Anagnost says the 1,150 jobs will disappear in departments that don’t work on things that contribute to Autodesk’s long-term goals, according to the quarterly earnings review. Anagnost says Autodesk wants to invest the money from the job cuts in departments that will help with those long-term goals.
The layoff comes at a time when the American company is moving from a model where it sells software to a revenue model where it sells subscriptions. The income from subscriptions more than doubles, according to the quarterly figures. In total, the company’s turnover increased slightly.
The switch is necessary because Autodesk has lost quarterly for the past two years. It lost $142 million last quarter. Autodesk is the maker of software like AutoCAD.
