IMac Pro may get an A10 Fusion coprocessor for ‘Hey Siri’
Apple’s BridgeOS software for the upcoming iMac Pro contains indications that the computer will get an A10 Fusion soc. This seems to include the ‘Hey Siri’ function to activate, when the iMac Pro is off.
The clues were found by developers Johnathan Levin and Steve Troughton-Smith when parsing the BridgeOS 2.0 software. The code contains several references to the T8010, the code name for the A10 Fusion soc. It would be the first time that the iMac gets such a soc from Apple.
The developers note that the coprocessor has 512MB of ram and in fact takes care of booting x86 and the EFI firmware. Troughton-Smith suggests that Apple wants to get a “tougher grip” on macOS with this without frustrating developers and users. According to him, the A10 Fusion also plays a role in the integration of ‘Hey Siri’, a function that can therefore also be activated when the system is switched off.
Developer Guilherme Rambo confirmed then that ‘Hey Siri’ can indeed be set via the software. BridgeOS is Apple’s software for linking an Intel processor with an ARM soc. The iMac Pro should be released this year.
