Android 8.1 makes battery consumption applications more transparent

Google plans to provide users with more insight into battery consumption in an update to the Android operating system. For example, it should become clearer which applications demand a lot from the battery and what the underlying reasons are.

That reports Android Police, which has seen the new functionality in a developer version of Android 8.1 Oreo. In the settings, users can gain additional insight into battery consumption, compared to previous versions of the mobile operating system. For example, a warning is given about which applications require a lot from the battery, and it is also possible to see why; for example, applications can have a large battery consumption because they request the location of the smartphone relatively often.

Furthermore, the battery management system also provides suggestions for improving battery life. In the example of an app that very often requests the location of the smartphone, it is possible to disable the location permissions, so that consumption is reduced. The system can also warn, for example, that the bluetooth connection is on without being used.

Rapid battery drain is one of the major annoyances that Android operating system users face. Google has already built in functions several times to better manage battery consumption, including by limiting background consumption, but it still happens that applications accidentally drain the battery quickly.
