Niantic coming next year with Harry Potter ar-game – update

Pokemon Go developer Niantic is working on a game based on the Harry Potter franchise. That reports news site TechCrunch. There has been no announcement from the parties involved, but according to the site, the game is nevertheless officially in development.

The new game would be called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and should be available in 2018. Former Google subsidiary Niantic is said to be collaborating with Warner Bros. for the game. Interactive and its new subsidiary Portkey Games. The studio has owned the rights for some time and rumors about such a game have been circulating in the past.

According to TechCrunch, not many details are known yet. Ingress, another Niantic title, would have a lot of influence on how this one will look. In the ar world, players can collect powerups, defend locations and explore the game world. The game could even use the same database of locations that Ingress and Pokémon Go draw from. Presumably, the game, like Ingress and Pokémon Go, will be playable for free.
