‘TP Vision will support HDR standard HDR10+’

TP Vision, the company that markets Philips-branded televisions, is said to have said in an interview with the German magazine Video Magazin that the company is on track to integrate HDR10+ into all Philips televisions on the market by 2018. come.

Danny Tack, a director of TP Vision, is also said to have said that not only will the 2018 models support HDR10+, but some existing TVs that hit the market this year will also get HDR10+ via a software update. That reports a German blog about electronics from Philips. It is not clear which existing TVs will receive the update.

Samsung announced in August that it will work with 20th Century Fox and Panasonic to support HDR10+. The three companies are establishing an entity that will offer the standard from January 2018. With this, Samsung wants to counterbalance the Dolby Vision standard. TP Vision is now likely to join this group that supports HDR10+.

Samsung’s partnership with Panasonic and 20th Century Fox likely means that TVs and content from these companies will not support competing Dolby Vision for a while. Until now, TP Vision’s Philips TVs only had support for HDR10 and HLG. Until now, the manufacturer did not clarify whether there were plans to also support HDR10 +. Dolby Vision is still missing from current Philips TVs, and will likely remain so when TP Vision supports HDR10+.

Samsung has already activated the HDR10+ standard in recent high-quality TVs, although this does not yet work via HDMI. The standard will be available from January for manufacturers of TVs and Blu-ray players, among others. Samsung presented HDR10+ as a new open standard for HDR in April. It was also announced that Amazon has promised to use the standard for its own video streaming service.
