Blizzard makes StarCraft II free to play from November 14th
Blizzard announced at its annual BlizzCon event that it will make its rts StarCraft II free-to-play starting November 14. The single player campaigns, such as Heart of the Swarm, still need to be purchased.
Blizzard writes that the single player campaign of Wings of Liberty will be playable for free. The same goes for multiplayer, in which players also have access to the expansions Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void without payment. The single player parts of these expansions and Nova Covert Ops still have to be paid for. This can be done individually or in a bundle.
Players who already owned all campaigns by October 31 will receive a special Ghost skin. For players who only have Wings of Liberty, the change means they will receive Heart of the Swarm for free. To access the expansions in multiplayer, players must first get a ‘first win of the day’ ten times in unranked or in a game against the AI. The co-op commanders only stay free until level five, with the exception of Raynor, Kerrigan and Artanis.
Blizzard originally released StarCraft II seven years ago. Previously, the company made the predecessors StarCraft and Brood War playable for free.
