One of the first claims concerned that of Android Central editor Alex Dobie, who noted on Twitter and in a later article that his review copy had significant burn-in problems. Afterwards, The Verge and 925Google, among others, claimed to find similar problems, albeit less extreme than Android Central.

The reviewers have had the devices for about a week and Android Central claims to have used the device for about three hours a day with the screen on. The Pixel 2 XL smartphone has an OLED screen from LG. OLED is more often associated with the burn-in of screen elements that are on screen for a long time, such as navigation buttons, but usually it concerns longer periods of use. At the device of 925Google appear indeed the Android navigation buttons are burned in.

Google told The Verge that it puts all of its products through extensive testing and is investigating burn-in claims.
