Open beta brings Android 8.0 to OnePlus 3 and 3T
OnePlus has entered an open beta for an Oxygen OS update based on Android 8.0. The software update can be installed on the OnePlus 3 and 3T, and the manufacturer hopes to gather feedback with the introduction.
The software was introduced on the OnePlus forum, along with a changelog and a list of things that are not quite functioning yet. By completing a questionnaire, users of the OnePlus 3 and 3T can provide feedback on the quality of the software. It is not known how long the manufacturer will then need to make the final version.
In the current open beta, there are still some issues with the fingerprint scanner; therefore it may function more slowly than usual. There are also stability issues with nfc and bluetooth, and the performance and compatibility of third-party apps still need to be improved. Finally, no shortcut can be created to Google Photos in the current build.
OnePlus also warns against downgrading to the previous beta software, which is still based on Android 7. In that case, users can lose their application data because software has to be flashed through a special process. However, the internal memory on the smartphone is preserved. If you are not running beta software at all, you first have to flash it via special instructions, after which only beta software updates appear on the smartphone and regular updates are no longer offered.
