Apple will pay artists higher royalties if they post a Spatial Audio version of their songs on Apple Music. For the time being, this is a bonus of ten percent per song.

The change was noticed by Music Business Worldwide. This news website was able to view a statement from Apple in which the American company informs music labels about the new arrangement. According to 9to5Mac Apple also applies the higher rates if the Spatial Audio versions of the songs are not listened to. That is, if not a single Spatial Audio song is listened to, but there are, the artist will still receive a ten percent increase in royalties on the other songs listened to.

With Spatial Audio, the sound responds to movements of the user’s head. The technology is supported by the third generation of AirPods, the first and second generation of Apple AirPods Pro earphones, Apple AirPods Max, iPhone 7 and later, various iPad models, Apple computers with Apple Silicon, Apple TV 4K, the Beats Fit Pro and the Beats Studio Pro headphones.
