The Apple Vision Products Group is reportedly considering both more powerful and cheaper versions of the Vision headset. The next generation of VR and AR headsets should also be lighter and offer a better solution for users who wear glasses.

The upcoming Apple Vision Pro

Apple is according to the newsletter from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman Working internally on the next Vision VR glasses, because the current Vision Pro has been finished for several months. According to him, the team is considering various new configurations, including a cheaper variant and an even more powerful version. It is not clear whether this specifically concerns the previously discussed cheaper Vision Pro that Apple reportedly postponed this summer.

The main goal would be that the device should become a lot lighter. It is not yet officially known what the Vision Pro weighs, but according to Gurman, tests show that the headset is currently too heavy for some users. Apple has already tried to reduce the weight of the glasses by removing the battery from the actual headset.

Another focus within the Vision Products Group, according to Gurman, is the solution for users who wear glasses. To reduce the size of the upcoming Vision Pro headset, Apple reportedly left no room for any glasses. Instead, the company is working with Zeiss to provide special prescription lenses for the headset. Apple reportedly wants to incorporate the lenses into the glasses for the next model. This presents another potential problem, Gurman emphasizes, because built-in prescription lenses make it more difficult to lend or resell the headset. He emphasizes that the plans are still at an early stage.

The same newsletter showed that competitor Meta is currently ‘afraid of Apple’ when it comes to the tech brand’s innovations in the field of VR glasses. Meta is also said to be considering new configurations for the next Quest headset.
