New Microsoft Surface dock replaces its own connection with Thunderbolt 4

Microsoft introduces a new version of its Surface Dock. This docking station has a USB-C connection with Thunderbolt 4, where previous versions had a proprietary Surface Connect connection. The dock will be available immediately for 366 euros.

The Microsoft Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock is intended for use with Surface devices, but due to its USB-C connection with Thunderbolt 4, it also works with devices from other manufacturers. The dock can be connected via an integrated Thunderbolt 4 cable, which is 80cm long.

The dock has three USB 3.2 Gen 2 type A connections and three USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support. The dock also has a port for 2.5Gbit/s Ethernet and a 3.5mm jack for audio. The dock can charge the device it is connected to with up to 96W. This works via USB Power Delivery. The dock also appears thinner than the company’s current Surface Dock 2.

Microsoft brings the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock on Tuesday April 4 via his own website. The dock costs 366 euros at the time of writing. The new device is therefore more expensive than the company’s previous Surface docks, which only worked via Microsoft’s own Surface devices via a Surface Connect connection. The tech giant says its current Surface Dock 1 and 2 will also remain available, as will the Microsoft USB-C Travel Hub.
