ASUS introduces ROG Ally handheld PC with external GPU support
ASUS introduces its ROG Ally, a gaming handheld with Windows 11. The handheld gets a custom AMD APU based on the Zen 4 architecture, support for external GPUs and a screen with a higher resolution and refresh rate.
ASUS reports on Twitter that the ROG Ally will be released. The company first announced the handheld on April 1, but now confirms that it was not an April Fool’s joke. According to ASUS, the device runs on Windows 11. ASUS equips the handheld with an AMD Ryzen APU, but does not say which chip exactly. In addition, the handheld supports an external GPU based on ASUS’s ROG XG Mobile system. The company recently released an RTX 4090 variant for $2,000.
YouTube channel Dave2D reports based on his hands-on experience that the device has an AMD chip based on the Zen 4 architecture. The screen has a 1080p resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate and a brightness of 500 cd/m². In addition, the Ally has two fans on board that ensure that the device produces less noise under load than Valve’s competitor. The device also has two thumbsticks, a D-pad and various controller buttons.
It’s not clear exactly when the ROG Ally will be released. ASUS does not currently share a suggested retail price.
