Google announces Pixel Fold, will release more details on May 10

Google has announced the Pixel Fold, the company’s first foldable smartphone. The smartphone can be seen unfolded and closed in a short video. Google says it will share more about the foldable on May 10, at its I/O fair.

The video shows, among other things how the phone opens and clearly shows the inner screen, including interface. The smaller screen on the outside is less visible. Google clearly shows a camera island with three cameras at the rear.

There have been rumors about a Pixel Fold for some time and the video seems to confirm many of these rumors. For example, Jon Prosser published a video in April in which he claimed that the device would have a 7.6″ screen on the inside with a resolution of 2208×1840 pixels. On the outside there would be a 5.8″ screen with a resolution of 2092×1080 pixels. Both screens are said to have a refresh rate of 120Hz.

According to Prosser, the rear has a 48-megapixel sensor and two 10.8-megapixel sensors for an ultrawide and telephoto camera. The SoC would be Google’s Tensor G2 SoC. In addition to the Pixel Fold, Google previously confirmed that it would release another Pixel device, probably the Pixel 7a.
