The Witcher games have sold more than 75 million times
CD Projekt Red reports that The Witcher games have sold more than 75 million copies in total. The best-selling game is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with more than 50 million copies sold. The publisher said it sold 50 million copies of The Witcher games in 2020.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is sold almost as much like, for example, Red Dead Redemption II. Publisher Take Two reported earlier in May having sold 53 million copies. The entire The Witcher series has sold as much as the Red Dead Redemption series, with the caveat that three The Witcher games have been released and only two Red Dead Redemption games.
CD Projekt Red said it sold 50 million The Witcher games three years ago. The recent increase may be due to the next-gen upgrade of The Witcher 3 and the Netflix series. The publisher is working on a direct sequel to 2015’s The Witcher 3, which now has the working title Polaris. Currently, 220 developers are working on that game, the publisher says. Most CD Projekt Red developers are currently working on Phantom Liberty, the DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red says it wants to show this game at the Summer Game Fest, which will take place on June 8.
CD Projekt announced the number of The Witcher games sold in its quarterly figures, which in terms of turnover were nineteen percent less than a year earlier. CD Projekt, which in addition to CD Projekt Red also includes game platform GOG, had a turnover of 38.6 million euros last quarter. Net profit increased by one percent to 15.4 million euros.
