European Commission postpones Activision takeover decision deadline by one month
The European Commission has postponed the deadline for a decision on the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. That deadline was April 25 and has now become May 22. In the meantime, Microsoft has made several agreements to satisfy authorities.
Reuters writes that the European Competition Authority will now obtain feedback from competitors and consumers. Reuters previously reported based on its sources that it appears that Microsoft will receive European approval for the billion-dollar acquisition. That’s one of the bigger stumbling blocks for the sale, which could become the biggest in the games industry.
Lately, Microsoft has signed deals with Nvidia, Boosteroid and Ubitus. The first concerns access to Call of Duty and other titles on GeForce NOW and the second and third are also game streaming services. It has also been promised that Nintendo will get Call of Duty on the Switch. Sony is also said to have been offered a guarantee on the availability of CoD, but did not accept it and continues to be critical of the takeover.
