Sipeed releases modular single-board computer with RISC-V chip and 16GB RAM

Chinese manufacturer Sipeed has announced a new single-board computer with 16GB of memory and RISC-V chip from Alibaba. The device has a modular design, so that users can easily connect devices and components to it in the future.

Sipeed brings the Lichee Pi 4A out early next year. This is a single board that is modular, to which users can add new hardware themselves. The single-board computer comes with the LM4A module, which runs on an Alibaba T-Head TH1520 processor, a RISC-V chip with four cores. The previous Lichee module still ran on an Allwinner D1 chip. The LM4A module also has up to 16GB of Lpddr4x-3733 memory and 128GB of eMMC storage.

The Lichee Pi 4A board itself has two Gigabit Ethernet ports that support power-over-Ethernet, an HDMI 2.0 connection with support for 4K images at 60fps and four USB 3.0 ports of type A with a maximum transfer speed of 5Gbit/s. It also has a 3.5mm jack and a 20-pin connection. The sign has a WiFi and Bluetooth module.

Sipeed says that new hardware compatible with the Pi 4A board will be released in the future. These include a phone and tablet, and a router. The Lichee Pi 4A itself will ship sometime in early 2023 in configurations starting with 2GB and without storage memory. The board supports Debian, Android and OpenWRT. The prices are not yet known.
