Core i9-13900K is the first CPU ever to achieve a record clock speed of 9GHz
Overclocker Elmor has achieved a new speed record on an Intel i9 CPU. It achieved a clock speed of just over 9GHz on a Core i9-13900K, at least 0.2GHz more than the previous record.
The result has been shared via HWbotalthough the verification is not up for the time being CPU-Z’s record list stands. The record was set by Swedish overclocker Jon Sandström, known by his alias Elmor. It achieved a speed of 9008.82MHz on a 13th generation Intel Core i9-13900K CPU with only the performance cores deployed. The team achieved the speed on a single performance core, while the other cores ran at a more normal speed.
He worked with a team from ASUS, which also supplied the Z790 motherboard, to achieve the world record. The Z790 Apex is specially built for overclocking and was also used in a previous record attempt. For example, that board only has two DDR5 slots. In addition, Elmor set up his own pot, or container, into which he poured coolant.
In his previous attempt, Elmor used liquid nitrogen, which cooled the processor to -196 degrees Celsius, but this time he used liquid helium. This caused the temperature in the refrigerator to drop to -250 degrees. Elmor says there was only enough helium available to cool the CPU for up to an hour.
The new record comes just two months after the same overclocking team set the previous world record for CPU speeds. Then Elmor achieved a speed of 8812MHz with a similar setup. With this he broke a record that dated back to 2014. In 2014, The Stilt achieved a clock speed of 8722MHz on an AMD FX-8370 CPU.
